Dream ...
The second step in preparing for your own “new normal” is to Dream – to imagine a new future for yourself which engages both your passion and your potential.

“Regaining our vitality is often our first step toward solutions, for it is with vitality that the brain begins creating new connections, replacing despair with opportunity.”

Dreaming is not just something we do in our sleep. We can dream on purpose so that we can identify the next steps we can take to strengthen our careers, if we're still employed, or to rebuild our lives if we've lost a job.
Here is just one way to dream...
Why dream: We dream about a positive future to give ourselves a vision to work towards. Dreaming is spending time in a future we imagine will satisfy our hopes and our wishes, and will be aligned with our values and our personal & family needs.
What to dream about: Dreaming is very private so dream about your personal "bucket list," all those things you ever wanted to do with your life. Don't exclude anything, rather be as big and bold as you like. At this step there are no time or cost limitations to meet.
How to dream: As silly as it sounds sometimes it is hard to get started dreaming. Divide a piece of paper into 6 boxes and label them Personal, Work, Relationships, Financial, Community, & Spiritual. Into each area put those things you've always wanted. Look at these categories and identify any common themes. Are they all related to living in the woods but you live in the city? Hmm . . .
Working with your dreams: After you've spent time considering the things you've always wanted which will engage your passion, you can look at your potential -- what are you naturally good at? One way to start is to find your signature strengths. First list all your peak experiences -- those times when you have really been in the zone. These are time that bring a smile to your face and make you forget you're working or busy. Again, when you're done, look for patterns or themes.
Building a dreaming habit...
Every year or six months sit down with your dream list and rejoice at all that you have accomplished, or recommit yourself to squeezing the most out of the time we have on earth.
To-Do's for Today
1. Schedule an Appointment with yourself to Dream. Perhaps it would be best while taking a walk or sitting quietly on the dock.
2. Make a list of all the characteristics of the perfect job that you can think of. When it comes time to interview you'll have your criteria already complete.
3. Call three people who are doing something similar to what is on your dream list, your bucket list, and ask to meet so you can find out more about how they got into that job and how well they like it.
